How POF works in electric power communication system?
Firstly, we talke about plastic optical fiber cable works in application of electric power communication system, we need to know what systems need POF products and why POF cable is a must option.
1. High-voltage inverter
2. SVG ( Static Var Generator or STATCOM )
3. Solar inverter
Besides these three equipments, there are some other optical fibers like PCS ( plastic clad silicon ) and HCS ( hard clad silicon ) with diameter 200um/230um, they are widely used as well in electic systems like wind power system and alarm system.
Then why electric power communication systems need POF cable, as material PMMA of plastic optic fiber is immune to electromagnetic wave radiation, that's very important for communication in power system, and the other advantages - High bandwidth, High speed, Good performance, High privacy protection and reliable safety. Amazing, right?
So how does POF work in these High-voltage or medium voltage systems?
Here we mostly talk about three parts: POF cable, Connectors and transceivers ( Transmitters and receivers )
From the brand, as all we know, there are Toray, Avago, Mitsubishi and Asahi Kasei for POF cables; About connectors, you can see Avago series like HFBR4503Z/HFBR4513Z, HFBR4506Z/HFBR4516Z etc. As for transceivers, Avago brand HFBR-1521Z, HFBR-2521Z, AFBR-1521CZ, AFBR-2521CZ, HFBR-1528Z, HFBR-2528Z, AFBR-1528CZ, AFBR-2528CZ, AFBR-1629Z and AFBR-2529Z, so many, right? Different types are choosed to be installed in different equipments. But now TX brand is more and more acceptable in these markets, which as a maunfacturer who provides a whole solution for customers.
POF cable: simplex and duplex fiber cable are used in electric systems, please see below structures. About features, attenuation and flame-retardant with UL certificate are considered.

Transmitters and receivers: As below.

After assembly, POF cable + connector + transceiver will be a part of communication system in electric power equipments. Of course, transmitters and receivers are installed in PCB boards, as separate parts, according to different requested lengths, POF cable is processed and connected with connectors, we call them patch cords. Patch cord will fit into corresponding transceiver.


The quality of communication will be mainly based on process of POF cable, includes material, polishing, assembly, other QC details etc. That's what we focus on. So if you are interested in more info about fiber optic applications, I will be glad to share more blogs.
