What is Optical Fiber?

Cables used to transmit data via optical fiber (wire) or plastic (glass) are called optical fiber cables. The cable includes a bundle of glass filaments that can transmit modulated messages through light waves.

Compared with other types of communication cables, the use of these cables has many advantages. For example, these cables have high bandwidth, are less interference-free than metal cables, are thinner and lighter, and data can be transmitted in digital form.

The main disadvantages of these cables are that they are expensive to install, more fragile and difficult to fix together.

The design considerations for these cables mainly include appearance, robustness, durability, tensile strength, flammability, size, temperature range and flexibility.

Due to the high transmission and data transmission capabilities, the application of optical fiber mainly involves the transmission of data in the place of metal cables.Today, these cables have been used for different purposes in various industries such as communications, broadcasting, industry, military, and medical. These cables replace coaxial cables and copper cables. These cables are used in different applications due to their advantages such as high speed and bandwidth.
